10 Scriptures to Pray Over Your Kids This School Year

School supplies are ready, curriculum is planned, and for so many moms and dads in our EveryLife community, the heart is already praying. As kids head into this new season, whether that's a day at homeschool or a classroom, one of the greatest gifts we can give them is simple: covering them in prayer.

New routines, new friendships, new pressures, new chances to grow, it's a lot for a kid to carry, and honestly, it's a lot for a parent to carry too. So this year, we're praying through 10 scriptures over our children, for their hearts, their minds, their safety, and their identity in Christ.

We hope you'll find one here for your family too.

1. That They'd Know How Loved They Are

Ephesians 3:17-18

God, in this season of new faces and new routines, may my children feel truly known and loved by you. Root them deeply in that love, and let it be the ground they stand on all year.

2. That They'd Make Godly Friendships

Proverbs 13:20; Proverbs 27:17

God, surround my children with friends who love you, friendships that sharpen them and never pull them away from you.

3. That They'd Be Kept Safe

Psalm 91

God, thank you for watching over my children. Keep them close, and remind me they were never mine to protect alone. You are their refuge and their strength.

4. That They'd Walk in Courage, Not Fear

2 Timothy 1:7

God, when nerves creep in, remind my children that they were not given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind.

5. That They'd Be Strong and Healthy

1 Peter 2:24; Matthew 8:17

God, I pray your wholeness and health over my children, from head to toe. Cover every part of them, and let their bodies stay strong through every busy week.

6. That They'd Stand Firm in The Truth

Romans 12:2; Matthew 7:24-25; 1 Corinthians 16:13

God, when the world tries to sneak in ideas that don't bring you glory, give my children the courage to speak up, the wisdom to know when to walk away, and your truth as the solid rock they stand on.

7. That They'd Know They're Never Doing It Alone

Philippians 4:13

God, remind my children that they can do hard things when they lean on you! May they carry that truth with them long after this season ends.

8. That They'd Grow in Wisdom

Daniel 1:4,17,20

God, may my children grow in knowledge, skill, and understanding. Give them a love for learning and a heart to grow in your wisdom.

9. That Their Hearts Would Stay Steady

Isaiah 54:13

God, when schedules get full and the pace feels fast, may my kids carry a peace that doesn't shake easily, the kind that only comes from you.

10. That God Would Be Glorified

Matthew 5:16; Colossians 3:23

God, may my children shine bright for you! May you be glorified in their words, their actions, and their thoughts.

Bonus: A Prayer for Mom and Dad, Too

Isaiah 40:31; Lamentations 3:22-23

God, renew us as this season begins, whether we're watching them walk into a classroom or sitting across the table from them at home. As our schedules fill up and new experiences come our way, fill us with fresh energy and joy. Give us patience on the hard mornings and gratitude on the good ones. Thank you for the gift of raising these children, and for walking this journey with us too. And ultimately, God, may we be a reflection of you for our children, in how we love, how we lead, and how we show up for them each day.

Starting something new is hard, however it looks for your family. Praying over your kids makes it a little easier. Save this list for the first day, and every day after, and share it with a parent who needs it too.
