Massachusetts Just Legalized Abortion Up to Birth
by Sarah Gabel Seifert
“No one is advocating for abortion up to birth." That's what they've told us for years.
This week, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed a law that says otherwise. The state removed its 24-week limit entirely. The new standard: an abortion may be performed based solely on "the professional judgment of the physician" at any point in pregnancy, for any reason, including on healthy babies and healthy mothers.
A baby who could survive outside the womb was just stripped of every legal protection in Massachusetts, and a room full of women clapped in celebration. That should stop every one of us in our tracks.
Massachusetts is now the 10th state with no gestational limit on abortion at all, joining Alaska, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont, plus Washington, D.C.
This is what they call "reproductive freedom." I call it evil, dressed up as “healthcare”.
A child at 39 weeks is not a medical mystery. She has fingernails. She recognizes her mother's voice. She could be born tomorrow and go home in a car seat. Massachusetts just made it legal to end her life instead: no diagnosis required, no emergency required, just a physician's judgment.
Let's be honest about the medical claim underneath all of this. You don't need a medical degree to understand a simple fact: late-term abortion is never medically necessary. If a baby has to be delivered to save the mother's life, the answer is delivery, not a multi-day procedure designed to end the baby's life first. An emergency delivery is faster and safer for the mother than the abortion process itself. There is no version of "we had to kill the baby to save her" that holds up.
A mother’s womb was once the safest place a baby could be and is no longer a protected place at all. That's not a talking point. It's the plain text of the law.
So what can we do in response?
Pray. Pray for the mothers being told abortion is compassion, that they'd be shown another way. Pray for the lawmakers who signed their names to it, that their eyes would be opened and their hearts convicted. Pray for a swing in the hearts of this nation back toward life. Pray that God would show you where He wants to use you and how you can make an impact in protecting and celebrating every miraculous life.
And don't stop there. This fight for life isn't over, not in Massachusetts, not anywhere, so be courageous and speak up.
This is what we believe at EveryLife: every baby deserves to be born. Every baby is a gift from God, worthy of love, protection, and celebration from the moment of conception. That belief doesn't get smaller when the culture moves further away from it. It gets louder.
Share it in conversation, at the dinner table, online. EveryLife products are a great conversation starter; let them open the door to talk about why every miraculous life matters. Remind the people around you that children are a blessing, not a burden, and that parenthood is a gift.
This is how we build a culture of life.
